"Those Jews" by Victor Davis Hanson
NATIONAL REVIEW ONLINE
October 31, 2003

If only Israel and its supporters would disappear.

There are certain predictable symptoms to watch when a widespread
amorality begins to infect a postmodern society: cultural relativism,
atheism, socialism, utopian pacifism. Another sign, of course, is
fashionable anti-Semitism among the educated, or the idea that some
imaginary cabal, or some stealthy agenda -- certainly not our own
weakness -- is conspiring to threaten our good life.

Well apart from the spooky placards (stars of David juxtaposed with
swastikas, posters calling for the West Bank to be expanded to "the sea")
that we are accustomed to seeing at the marches of the supposedly ethical
antiwar movement, we have also heard some examples of Jew-baiting and
hissing in the last two weeks that had nothing to do with the old crazies.
Indeed, such is the nature of the new anti-Semitism that everyone can now
play at it -- as long as it is cloaked in third-world chauvinism, progressive
thinking, and identity politics.

The latest lunatic rantings from Malaysian prime minister Mahathir
Mohamad are nothing new, and we should not be surprised by his
mindless blabbering about Jews and his fourth-grade understanding of
World War II and the present Middle East. But what was fascinating was the
reaction to his madness: silence from the Arab intelligentsia, praise from
Middle Eastern leaders ("A brilliant speech," gushed Iran's "president"
Mohammad Khatami), and worry from France and Greece about an EU
proclamation against the slander. Most American pundits were far more
concerned about the private, over-the-top comments of Gen. Boykin than
about the public viciousness of a head of state. Paul Krugman, for
example, expressed the general mushiness of the Left when he wrote a
column trying to put Mahathir Mohamad's hatred in a sympathetic context,
something he would never do for a Christian zealot who slurred Muslims.

Much has been written about the usually circumspect Greg Easterbrook's
bizarre ranting about "Jewish executives" who profit from Quentin
Tarantino's latest bloody production. But, again, the problem is not so
much the initial slips and slurs as it is the more calculated and measured
"explanation." Easterbrook's mea culpa cited his prior criticism of Mel
Gibson, as if the supposed hypocrisy of a devout and public Christian's
having trafficked in filmed violence were commensurate with the dealings
of two ordinary businessmen who do not publicly embrace religion.
Michael Eisner and Harvey Weinstein simply happen to be movie
executives, with no stake in producing Jewish movies or public-morality
films, but -- like most in Hollywood -- with a stake in making money from
films. That they are Jewish has absolutely no bearing on their purported
lack of morality -- unless, of course, one seeks to invent some wider
pathology, evoking historical paranoia about profiteering, cabals, and "the
Jews."

Recently, Joseph Lieberman was hissed by an Arab-American audience in
Dearborn, Mich. when he briefly explained Israel's defensive wall in terms
not unlike those used by Howard Dean and other candidates. What earned
him the special public rebuke not accorded to others was apparently
nothing other than being Jewish -- the problem was not what he said, but
who he was. No real apology followed, and the usually judicious and sober
David Broder wrote an interesting column praising the new political
acumen of the Arab-American community.

Tony Judt, writing in The New York Review of Books, has published one of
the most valuable and revealing articles about the Middle East to appear in
the last 20 years. There has always been the suspicion that European
intellectuals favored the dismantling of Israel as we know it through the
merging of this uniquely democratic and liberal state with West Bank
neighbors who have a horrific record of human-rights abuses, autocracy,
and mass murder. After all, for all too many Europeans, how else but with
the end of present-day Israel will the messy Middle East and its attendant
problems -- oil, terrorism, anti-Semitism, worries over unassimilated
Muslim populations in Europe, anti-Americanism, and postcolonial guilt --
become less bothersome? Moreover, who now knows or cares much about
what happened to Jews residing under Arab governments -- the over half-
million or so who, in the last half-century, have been ethnically cleansed
from (and sometimes murdered in) Baghdad, Cairo, Damascus, and almost
every Jewish community in the Arab Middle East?

And what is the value of the only democratic government in a sea of
autocracy if its existence butts up against notions of third-world
victimhood and causes so much difficulty for the Western intelligentsia?
Still, few intellectuals were silly enough to dress up that insane idea under
the pretext of a serious argument (an unhinged Vidal, Chomsky, or Said
does not count). Judt did, and now he has confirmed what most of us knew
for years -- namely, that there is an entrenched and ever-bolder school of
European thought that favors the de facto elimination of what is now a
democratic Jewish state.

What links all these people -- a Muslim head of state, a rude crowd in
Michigan, an experienced magazine contributor, and a European public
intellectual -- besides their having articulated a spreading anger against the
"Jews"? Perhaps a growing unease with hard questions that won't go away
and thus beg for easy, cheap answers.

A Malaysian official and his apologists must realize that gender apartheid,
statism, tribalism, and the anti-democratic tendencies of the Middle East
cause its poverty and frustration despite a plethora of natural resources
(far more impressive assets than the non-petroleum-bearing rocks beneath
parched Israel). But why call for introspection when the one-syllable slur
"Jews" suffices instead?

And why would an Arab-American audience -- itself composed of many
who fled the tyranny and economic stagnation of Arab societies for the
freedom and opportunity of a liberal United States -- wish to hear a
reasoned explanation of the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian war
when it was so much easier to hiss and moan, especially when mainstream
observers would ignore their anti-Semitism and be impressed instead with
the cadre of candidates who flock to Michigan?

How do you explain to an audience that Quentin Tarantino appeals both to
teens and to empty-headed critics precisely because something is terribly
amiss in America, when affluent and leisured suburbanites are drawn to
scenes of raw killing as long as it is dressed up with "art" and "meaning"?

How could a Tony Judt write a reasoned and balanced account of the
Israeli-Palestinian conflict when to do so would either alienate or bore the
literati?

So they all, whether by design or laxity, take the easier way out -- especially
when slurring "Israel" or "the Jews" involves none of the risks of incurring
progressive odium that similarly clumsy attacks against blacks, women,
Palestinians, or homosexuals might draw, requires no real thinking, and
seems to find an increasingly receptive audience.

You see, in our mixed-up world those Jewish are not a "people of color."
And if there really is such a mythical monolithic entity in America as the
"Jews," they (much like the Cubans) are not easily stereotyped as
impoverished victims needing largesse or condescension, and much less
are they eligible under any of the current myriad of rubrics that count for
public support. Israel is a successful Western state, not a failed third-world
despotism. Against terrible oppression and overt anti-Semitism, the Jewish
community here and abroad found success -- proof that hard work,
character, education, and personal discipline can trump both natural and
human adversity. In short, the story of American Jewry and Israel
resonates not at all with the heartstrings of a modern therapeutic society,
which is quick to show envy for the successful and cheap concern for the
struggling.

This fashionable anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism -- especially among
purported intellectuals of the Left -- reveals a deep-seated, scary pathology
that is growing geometrically both in and outside the West. For a Europe
that is disarmed, plagued by a demographic nightmare of negative
population growth and unsustainable entitlements, filled with
unassimilated immigrants, and deeply angry about the power and presence
of the United States, the Jews and their Israel provide momentary relief on
the cheap. So expect that more crazy thoughts of Israel's destruction
dressed up as peace plans will be as common as gravestone and
synagogue smashing.

For the Muslim world that must confront the power of the patriarch, mullah,
tribe, and autocrat if it is ever to share the freedom and prosperity of the
rest of the world, the Jews offer a much easier target. So expect even more
raving madness as the misery of Islamic society grows and its state-run
media hunker down amid widespread unrest. Anticipate, also, more sick
posters at C-SPAN broadcast marches, more slips by reasonable writers,
and more anti-Israeli denunciations from the "liberals."

These are weird, weird times, and before we win this messy war against
Islamic fascism and its sponsors, count on things to get even uglier. Don't
expect any reasoned military analysis that puts the post-9/11 destruction of
the Taliban and Saddam Hussein's evil regime, along with the liberation of
50 million at the cost of 300 American lives, in any sort of historical
context. After all, in the current presidential race, a retired general now
caricatures U.S. efforts in Iraq and quotes Al Sharpton.

Do not look for the Islamic community here to acknowledge that the United
States, in little over a decade, freed Kuwait, saved most of the Bosnians
and Kosovars, tried to feed Somalis, urged the Russians not to kill
Chechnyans, belatedly ensured that no longer were Shiites and Kurds to be
slaughtered in Iraq, spoke out against Kuwait's ethnic cleansing of a third
of a million Palestinians -- and now is spending $87 billion to make Iraqis
free.

That the Arab world would appreciate billions of dollars in past American
aid to Jordan, Egypt, and the Palestinian Authority, or thank America for its
help in Kuwait and Kosovo, or be grateful to America for freeing Iraq -- all
this is about as plausible as the idea that Western Europeans would
acknowledge their past salvation from Nazism and Soviet Communism, or
be grateful for the role the United States plays to promote democracy in
Panama, Haiti, the Balkans, or the Middle East.

No, in this depressing age, the real problem is apparently our support for
democratic Israel and all those pesky Jews worldwide, who seem to crop
up everywhere as sly war makers, grasping film executives, conspiratorial
politicians, and greedy colonialists, and thus make life so difficult for the
rest of us.

Strangers in a Familiar Land
by Rabbi Stewart Weiss
(Oped Jerusalem Post, November 2, 2003)

Whose country is it, anyway? Last week, my wife decided to pay a visit to
Rachel's Tomb, which she had not seen for several years.

Although the building housing Rachel's Tomb has been extensively
renovated and is quite impressive, the experience of visiting there is a
harrowing one.

The road between the border of Jerusalem and the tomb itself is just 300
meters long, but is open only to bulletproof vehicles private cars are
banned which must proceed, snail-like, in single-file procession.

Civilians are not allowed outside, so the vehicles pull up as close as
possible to the tomb, at which time the visitors run like scared rabbits into
the fortress-like complex.

Unfortunately, the situation at Rachel's Tomb is not a unique one; at
virtually every one of our holy places, free and comfortable access is the
exception rather than the norm. Every pilgrimage has the feel of a military
mission, and it's a major struggle to safely get in and get out.

The Machpela Cave in Hebron the ancient burial place of the Patriarchs
and Matriarchs established that city as one of the four holy cities of
Judaism. Visitors to the Cave encounter a heavy police and army presence,
understandable in the light of numerous Palestinian terror attacks. After
being thoroughly searched, Jews are permitted to pray in the "Avraham"
and "Jacob" areas, but not in "Yitzhak" the largest of the chambers as
that is reserved for Arabs only.
On 10 days of the year, the Cave is open to either only Arabs or only Jews.

It will be interesting to see what transpires this year, when the yahrtzeit for
Sarah the first of the Matriarchs to be buried in Machpela coincides with
the end of Ramadan; both communities have requested exclusive access.

Outside, near the entrance to the Cave, is a spot called "the Seven Steps."
For many years, when the Muslims were in control of the complex, Jews
were barred from actually entering the Cave itself.

They were restricted to praying at the side of the building, on several steps
that led nowhere. There they pitifully lit candles and recited Psalms, so
near and yet so far from the holy place itself.

The Palestinian Authority our erstwhile "partners" in the "peace process"
have boasted that if and when they again take total control of Hebron,
Jews will once again be banned from the Cave and forced to huddle as
beggars at the Seven Steps. In reality, I doubt we would even get that far.

And what of the Temple Mount, Har Habayit? The primary site of our
ancient Temple Judaism's holiest spot is essentially Judenrein. Even on
those rare occasions when Jews are allowed up there, the Muslim Wakf
zealously watches them to be sure they do not move their lips in prayer or
so much as bow in homage to God. If they do, they are rudely shown the
exit, and often even arrested.

While it is true that many rabbis forbid Jews to enter the Temple Mount
because of the prohibition to walk in certain sacred areas there, other
rabbinic authorities most prominently the late chief rabbi Shlomo Goren
ruled that there are clearly some places on the Mount that are not hallowed
ground, and thus religiously accessible.

Our failure to visit the Temple Mount has emboldened some of our own
politicians, whose ties to tradition are pragmatic, at best, to offer full
control of the site to the Wakf. It also weakens our case that this is a
Jewish treasure that must remain in Jewish hands. As one (non-Jewish) US
Congressman asked me: "How can you Jews claim to revere this place so
much if you won't even set foot on it?"

And then there is Joseph's Tomb in Nablus. Just two weeks ago for the
second time in two years wild mobs of rampaging Palestinians set fire to
the holy place, gleefully torching any prayer books or holy texts they found
there. This is where Rabbi Hillel Lieberman was murdered two years ago
when he tried to rescue Torah scrolls left behind when the IDF abandoned
its post at the Tomb. Our presence there is sporadic and fraught with
danger.

All this combines to send two distinct messages. The first is that the Arabs
have never and will never respect the sanctity of Jewish holy places,
regardless of world pressure. Just as the Jordanians systematically
destroyed every last synagogue in Jerusalem's Old City when it fell into
their hands in 1948, so will the Palestinians desecrate and destroy any
place sacred to us if, God forbid, they wrest it from our control.

And that includes the Western Wall; I have no doubt whatsoever that the
Palestinians would attempt to do what even the Romans could not
accomplish turn the Wall into a heap of rubble. Moshe Dayan's
catastrophic decision to turn the keys to the holy sites over to the Wakf
should be reversed, not reinforced.

But the second message is meant solely for us. We, in a sense, have
become prisoners in our own homes. While our enemies roam free, and
sleep the sleep of the just, we are restricted and restrained all over our
land. At times I can understand why so many nations question our
legitimacy in Israel; by our fear to assert full rights of ownership in our own
homeland, we appear more like tenants than landlords.

If we have any sense of Jewish pride, if we want to finally and fully
establish our sovereignty over the land of Israel, then we must sing, in full
voice, "This Land is My Land." We must hold our heads up high and end
this self-imposed national house arrest. We must take back that which is
rightfully ours.

The writer is director of the Jewish Outreach Center of Ra'anana.

THE CONSPIRACY OF SILENCE
OR
WHO MURDERED YITZHAK RABIN?

LETTER FROM RUTH MATAR (WOMEN IN GREEN) JERUSALEM
Wednesday, November 5, 2003

Dear Friends,

The 8th anniversary of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's assassination has
once again become a political tool for the Left to use in bashing the Right.

Labor party secretary-general Ophir Pines-Paz blames the Right, as a
whole, for Rabin's murder. Pines-Paz stated: "When you hear people being
accused of treason and calls to bring 'Oslo Criminals' to court, you have to
wonder how soon the next assassination will come"

Labor party chairman Shimon Peres defended the Left on Channel 1's
Politica: "What, on a holy day you can't tell the truth?" He said. "Rabin
fought with full force for what he believed in. When they are calling us the
criminals of Oslo we cannot be silent."

All of the above is a blatant attempt to maintain the conspiracy of silence
with regard to the Rabin assassination. The official version is that Yigal
Amir is the murderer and that he acted alone. Over the eight years since
the Rabin assassination, evidence has come to light which proves that this
official version is absolutely not credible.

We need to ask the following important questions:

1. Who really murdered Yitzhak Rabin?

2. Was this a breach of security or worse?

3. Was there a cover-up by the Shabak?

On these important questions there has been a veritable conspiracy of
silence. However, some have dared to challenge the official version.

1. Barry Chamish in his book "Who Murdered Yitzhak Rabin?"
    (English, Hebrew, Russian, French, German)

2. Natan Gefen in his book "Fatal Sting" (Hebrew and Russian)

3. David Morrison in his book "Lies: Israel's Secret Service and the Rabin
Murder"
    (English and Hebrew)

4. Dalia Rabin-Pelosoff, Yitzhak Rabin's daughter, in a magazine interview
with Olam Ha'Isha
(Woman's World) in November of 1999.

Others who have also tried to reveal the truth, amongst them, Adir Zyk,
columnist, commentator and film producer; Dr. David Chayen, vascular
surgeon in Assaf Harofe hospital; Professor Hillel Weiss; Professor Aryeh
Zaritsky; Jacob Werker, C.P.A.; Attorney Nitzana Darshan-Leitner; and
others who are working to reveal the truth, who are too numerous to
mention here.

What happened after the large "peace rally" in Tel Aviv is still being
debated. Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin walked to his car under the
protection of Israel's Secret Service (Shabak or Shin Bet). What really
transpired thereafter has perplexed Israel, the world, and, very importantly,
Rabin's own family, his wife Leah Rabin, his son Yuval Rabin and his
daughter Dalia Rabin Pelosoff.

What shocked me personally into realizing that the official version of the
Rabin assassination was a deliberate cover-up is an interview which Dalia
Rabin-Pelosoff, Yitzhak Rabin's daughter, gave to the Hebrew magazine
Olam Ha'Isha (Woman's World) issue 193 in November of 1999.

Sarit Yishai-Levi was the interviewer.

RABIN-PELOSOFF: [...] Each of, all of us together, are consumed by doubts
regarding how it happened and what happened. This is the most difficult.

The most difficult.

YISHAI-LEVI: What doubts?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: This is very complex, and I am not certain that I want to
get into this. I don't want to make accusations, as long as I do not have
solid proof. I don't want to get involved in slander trials. But we all have the
feeling that the entire episode was finished with the conclusion that the
assassination was a fiasco. This is too simplistic. There are very many
question marks regarding the night of the murder.

YISHAI-LEVI: Question marks regarding the conduct of the G.S.S. [General
Security Services]?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: I am not saying, and I am not pointing an accusing
finger in any direction, but many unanswered question marks remain.

YISHAI-LEVI: Such as?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: Well, someone shouted, 'This is a blank', and there is
no answer, who shouted. And the Shamgar Commission did not determine
who was the person who shouted that this was a blank cartridge.

YISHAI-LEVI: Where does this confidence that someone shouted, 'This is a
blank' come from? Perhaps this is a rumor?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: My mother [Mrs. Leah Rabin] heard positively. She rang
me at home immediately after this happened and she told me. "They shot
[at] Father, but this is not real". I will never forget the telephone
conversation with her. Mother felt that nothing had happened, that this was
not real, that everything was all right, that Father was all right.

YISHAI-LEVI: Perhaps she expressed her wish?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: Perhaps. But there were other people in addition who
heard. When the security people drove her in a different automobile to the
hospital, they told her that this was not real. And when she asked
questions, they were silent and did not answer a single question of hers.

There are very many question marks around everything that happened
immediately after the assassination. How was it that in the automobile that
drove Mother, the security people did not speak with anyone the entire
way? Why didn't they let Mother drive with Father? Why did they separate
them and take her in a separate automobile?

I am throwing out to you question marks that trouble me every day. Why
did they take Mother from the place of the assassination? Why did they
want to hustle her away from the scene of the event as fast as possible?
Why did they tell her that this was an exercise? What exercise? And what
happened to the so-essential instincts of every security person? Why didn't
they immediately kill the assassin? How did it happen that they did not
shoot him?

Look what happened now with Mubarak -- how was it that the people who
were entrusted with guarding my father did not instinctively shoot the one
who shot him, [and] kill him?

I am saying that this is certainly similar to what the members of the
Kennedy family felt after John Kennedy was assassinated. To this day
there is no explanation for the question -- who was behind the
assassination of Kennedy? To this day there is no explanation for who was
behind the assassination of my father. Then, they accused Oswald, who
was immediately murdered. By us, they accuse Yigal Amir. But this is not
so simple. This is much deeper, and much more complex.

YISHAI-LEVI: And whom do you suspect?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: Whom I suspect, I won't say. I simply am raising before
you all these doubts that have been harbored in my mind and in those of
the family since the assassination. Sometimes I go so far as to have the
harshest thoughts. I know that we in the family will find no rest until we
will know the truth.

YISHAI-LEVI: And this harbors in your mind all the time? You are occupied
with suspicions, with doubts?

RABIN-PELOSOFF: This comes in waves. There was a period when
Channel Two, with the reporter Matti Cohen, prepared a serious
investigative report. They sat with me and told me about their findings, and
this greatly troubled me. Unfortunately, they have done nothing with this
investigative reporting until now.

And when I hear that a person like Avigdor Eskin, whom I have been
closely following ever since the assassination, was run by the G.S.S.
(General Security Services), this arouses in me thoughts and wondering,
and things arise. Such things arouse the doubt in me again and again.

I am exposed to this all the time. Not long ago in the Knesset I met a person
who brought me a suitcase packed with documents full of doubts and
question marks. This person has been engaged in the investigation of the
assassination since it happened. And every time, from anew, I reach the
conclusion that perhaps there is no chance of reaching the truth, and I
leave this alone. And then, through someone else who is no less troubled
by this than the members of the family, this is awakened from anew. This
bothers me greatly.

One of my ways of handling this was to go and work in the Histadrut, to go
to the Knesset, to involve myself in public work. But this still does not help.
The doubt harbors in the mind. Question marks arise all the time. Such as,
for example, the inconsistency between the report of the doctor who
received Father when he arrived at Ichilov [Hospital] and the pathology
report. This does not let me alone. The feeling of frustration is very, very
difficult.

"Someone shouted, 'This is a blank', and there is no answer as to who
shouted.... My mother rang me at home immediately after it happened and
told me, 'They shot Abba [Father], but it's not for real'....When the security
people drove her in a different automobile to the hospital, they told her that
it wasn't real. And when she asked questions, they were silent and did not
answer a single question of hers... There are very many question marks
around everything that happened immediately after the assassination. How
was it that in the car that drove Imma, the security people did not speak
with anyone the entire way? Why didn't they let Imma drive with Abba?
Why did they separate them and take her in a separate car? ...

"Why did they take Imma from the place of the assassination? Why did they
want to hustle her away from the scene of the event as fast as possible?
Why did they tell her that this was an exercise? What exercise? And what
happened to the so-essential instincts of every security person? Why didn't
they immediately kill the assassin? How did it happen that they didn't
shoot him? ...

"They accuse Yigal Amir. But it is not so simple. It is much deeper, and
much more complex... I know that we in the family will find no rest until we
will know the truth... [Also] for example, the inconsistency between the
report of the doctor who received Abba when he arrived at Ichilov
[Hospital] and the pathology report. This does not leave me. The feeling of
frustration is very, very difficult..."

* * *

This research of Barry Chamish and others on the Rabin assassination has
long been perceived as a threat by the Left. Chamish was scheduled to
give a lecture on the Rabin assassination at the Hebrew University in the
beginning of 1997. Member of Knesset, Ra'anan Cohen (Meretz), first tried
to prevent the lecture. He sent a letter to the University demanding the
cancellation of the talk, but the University said that it could not, on legal
advice, do this. So the lecture took place on April 3rd, 1997. On that
evening, a violent demonstration took place at Hebrew University of
Jerusalem by student supporters of Meretz and Labor. Scuffles, broken
windows and doors, fist fights, and use of clubs - it was a frightening
scene. Most painful was the realization that Knesset members of both
Meretz and Labor were there with megaphones to incite the crowd. Among
them were Anat Maor of Meretz, Eitan Cabel and Dahlia Itzik of Labor, and
Gilad Hayman, the right hand man of Ophir Pines-Paz.

Five Women in Green were there, Nadia Matar, myself and three other
women had come to listen to the lecture. We were surprised and
frightened at what happened. When the mob recognized Women in Green
leader, Nadia Matar, they screamed; "Kill the fascist bitch Nadia!" They
grabbed the glasses off the face of our Anita Finkelstein and stomped on
them. We were truly grateful to escape alive.

Why is the Left so anxious to bash the Right and to pin the blame for the
Rabin assassination on the people, who from the very beginning disagreed
with and fought the disastrous Oslo Accords, whereby thousands of guns
were handed to our enemies? The Left calls such a disagreement
"incitement" and therefore blames anyone who dares to speak out, for the
murder of Yitzhak Rabin.

Michael Karpin, a prominent leftist journalist and broadcaster wrote an
Israeli bestseller "Murder in the Name of G-d" to this effect. In this book
Mr. Karpin tells us that people who are religious, the Rabbis in Israel,
Yesha, the Young Israel Rabbis of the United States, Zo Artzeinu, the
Zionist Organization of America (ZOA), Americans for a Safe Israel (AFSI),
and, of course, the Women in Green, murdered Yitzhak Rabin "In the Name
of G-d".

I can assure you that Women in Green had nothing to do with the
assassination of Yitzhak Rabin.

The attempt to try to pin the blame for the murder of Yitzhak Rabin on the
nationalist population, has now been going on for eight years, and, I
believe, is intensifying. Why is this so? Because the conspiracy of silence
is slowly coming apart, and new facts about the Rabin murder are
constantly coming to light.

Consider the following: It has been revealed that Yitzhak Rabin wrote an
urgent letter to Shimon Peres at the time when Peres held secret
negotiations with Arafat's people in Oslo, where Rabin tells Peres to
immediately stop such negotiations as harmful.

Two weeks before his murder, Prime Minister Rabin told holocaust scholar
Eli Wiesel that Yasser Arafat was corrupt and could not be a partner for
peace. (Jerusalem Post, November 6, 2002, page 5.) If you want to receive
this article you can either buy it on the Jerusalem Post website
http://www.jpost.co.il or upon request, we will email it to you.

Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin had many years of bitter political and
ideological rivalry. When Peres now insists that he and Rabin were in full
accord the day of the assassination, he is certainly not telling us the
unvarnished truth.

Public officials, of course, are not always honest with their constituencies.
Is deception justifiable for the sake of national security or any other
excuse? Will the conspiracy of silence ever be successfully broken? Will
the truth about Rabin's murder ever be divulged?

The stranglehold of the Left over Israeli society might well be weakened if
we could find out the TRUTH about what really happened on November 4,
1995.

EXPLODING THE MYTH OF YITZCHAK RABIN
           by syndicated columnist, Ben Schapiro

Eight years ago this week, the fate of Israel was sealed. On November 4,
1995, Prime Minister Yitzchak
Rabin was assassinated by Yigal Amir. The murder was tragic, not just
because Rabin suffered an untimely
death, but because Rabin became sacrosanct. The illusory image of Rabin
as the tough sabra willing to
negotiate with the Arabs, as the invincible general turned peacemaker, as
the tolerant, wise leader of the
Jewish state, was forever enshrined in the public consciousness. Rabin's
political inheritance, the Oslo
Accords, became unassailable.

On the anniversary of his death, it is now more necessary than ever to
explode the myth of Yitzchak Rabin.
As long as Rabin's myth exists, it will be impossible to move beyond his
failed policies: negotiation with
terror, persecution of the Israeli right wing, apologetics for Jewish
existence.

Rabin was no "great general." As Uri Milstein's The Rabin File explains,
Yitzchak Rabin bears
responsibility for many of the most fouled-up military operations in Israeli
history. On December 9, 1947,
during the War of Independence, Rabin took charge of the Jerusalem
sector of the Palmach (the elite
striking-force of the Haganah, precursor to the Israeli Defense Force).
Rabin's task was to secure Jerusalem
and access to the city. Under his watch, Israeli forces met with disaster
after disaster. The substantial losses
incurred by Rabin's soldiers led the United States to withdraw support for
the establishment of the Jewish
State on March 19.

Rabin's military record extends beyond incompetence. The celebrated
soldier actually fled the field of battle
in 1948. On April 20, a food and supply convoy set out for Jerusalem. The
area fell under Rabin's
jurisdiction. His forces failed to secure the road, and the convoy was
ambushed. When the ambush
occurred, several officers attempted to lead counter-attacks; Rabin did not.
Instead, he personally drove
away for reinforcements. After requesting reinforcements, Rabin did not
return to fight with his men -- he
went to sleep.

One of Rabin's proudest military moments came on June 22, 1948.
Menachem Begin's Irgun, another
Israeli military group, was in the midst of negotiating a pact with David
Ben-Gurion under which Irgun
would join the new Israeli Defense Force. Meanwhile, the Irgun had loaded
a ship, the Altalena, with
weapons and Jewish fighters (many of them Holocaust survivors) to join
the IDF. Ben-Gurion ordered that
the Altalena be fired upon. Rabin carried out his orders to the letter. Later,
Rabin bragged how he had
"bumped them off on the deck of the burning ship and while they were
trying to swim to safety." Sixteen
Jews were killed, many shot while swimming to shore.

So much for the "great general." More importantly, however, Rabin's true
political legacy -- the diabolical
"peace process" -- must be exposed. Before his election in 1992, Rabin
promised the Israeli public that he
would never negotiate with arch-terrorist Yassar Arafat or his murderous
Palestine Liberation Organization.
Yet before the Israeli elections, in May 1992, eight Labor Party members,
led by master-appeaser Yossi
Beilin, met with Abu Mazen (then the head of the PLO "political wing") in
Cairo. This was against Israeli
law. According to Yehoshua HaMe'iri, a journalist then stationed in Cairo,
"what was discussed was an
attempt to ensure a Labor Party victory in the elections." A quid pro quo
was made: Labor would work on behalf of "Palestinians" if the PLO
influenced Israeli Arabs to vote Labor.

After the election, the Rabin government immediately cracked down on
Israelis opposing the Oslo
Accords. Moshe Feiglin, now the head of the Manhigut Yehudit block within
Likud, organized peaceful
mass protests. Rabin retaliated by putting Feiglin on trial for "raising fear
among the public." At future
protests, the Israeli Police were used as a political organization, blocking
protesters and sometimes
assaulting them. It is vital to remember that before Rabin's murder, his
peace program had been
overwhelmingly rejected by the Israeli public. By April 1994, Rabin's
approval rating had dropped to 41
percent. Before his assassination, Rabin was trailing anti-Oslo Likud
candidate Benjamin Netanyahu by a
wide margin. Only after his murder did the public deify Rabin.

After Rabin's death, the witch-hunt shifted into high gear. The Israeli right
wing found itself in a position
akin to the American right wing after the Oklahoma City bombing. Eight
years later, the madness has not
ceased. The government has shut down the radio station Arutz Sheva, a
right wing news service; actions are
underway to shut down Arutz Sheva's internet site as well.

Yitzchak Rabin did not deserve to be murdered. He simply deserved to lose
the public trust. He deserved to
live out his life in obscurity rather than dying a martyr for a detestable
cause.

demonstration in Jerusalem
demanding to release Noam Federman from administrative detention.

Where: Jerusalem, Talpiyot in front of Beit Liel where the Shabak offices
are located.
For those who are not familiar with the area: We meet at 10:00 am in front
of Kanyon Achim Yisrael and from there will walk the short walk to Beit
Liel.

Background on Noam Federman (courtesy of Hebron office):

See pictures: http://www.hebron.com/news/federmanbm.htm
***************************************************************
Federman was jailed via an administrative order signed by Defense
Minister Shaul Mufaz a few weeks before the Jewish New Year, Rosh
HaShana, almost two months ago. Despite the fact that no charges have
been brought against him, nor has he been indicted, Federman is being
held in one of the most high-level security prisons in Israel. He is
imprisoned in a tiny cell in the same wing with Lebanese terrorists
Mustapha Dirani and Shech Obeid, both of whom are shortly to be released
in a Israel-Hezbollah prisoner exchange. Other Arab terrorists are jailed
very close to Federman's cell. A week ago a cell adjacent to Federman's
was set on fire and Noam had to be treated for smoke inhalation. He has
been on a hunger strike for the past 16 days, protesting the disgraceful
conditions he is being held under. He is forbidden from seeing his wife and
children, and may not receive telephone calls.

In order to attend his daughter's Bat Mitzvah party, Federman had to appeal
to the Supreme Court, due to opposition by the police. Permission was
granted, with restrictions. Federman was allowed to attend in handcuffs,
for two hours. The list of invited guests could include only his daughter's
friends, family, and 10 family friends. An appeal to the Supreme Court,
requesting that more family friends be allowed to attend was rejected.

Dozens of uninvited guests also attended the party - police. There were at
least 10 police in the party hall at all times. Three or four police surrounded
Federman at all times, while he was sitting and talking to his wife, children
and other guests. Outside the hall police prevented others from attending -
anyone whose name was not on 'the list' was forbidden from entering the
hall. Several dozen of Federman's friends stood outside, attempting to
celebrate from afar.

An online petition to Ariel Sharon and Shaul Mufaz is available at:

THE SHABAK (ISRAEL'S SECRET SERVICE) ADMINISTRATIVE DETENTION
ABUSE

LETTER FROM RUTH MATAR (WOMEN IN GREEN) JERUSALEM
Thursday, November 13, 2003

Dear Friends,

I do so wish that I didn't feel the need to write this particular letter.

Unfortunately, I must tell you that Israelis still live under the threat of
Administrative Detention, a legal instrument left over from British Mandate
days.

No doubt, Administrative Detention was and is a reasonable and legitimate
legal instrument in times of riots and terrorism. There is no other way to
detain, for any length of time, a large number of suspects involved in acts
of extreme violence against the State. Following all normal court
procedures in such circumstances would paralyze the legal system and
help potential killers.

What is Administrative Detention? Individuals may be imprisoned by the
State without due
process, without being charged, or even without being informed what their
crime might be.
Such individuals don't have to be brought before a judge, and are often not
allowed to have
their day in court. They are not entitled to the usual free society rules,
which render all suspects innocent until proved otherwise.

The Agency in Israel which uses this tool of Administrative Detention is
Israel's General Secret Service, the Shabak (also called the Shin Bet).

Since the rebirth of the State of Israel, the Shabak has used this tool in
what many think is a rampant denial of civil rights. I want to mention three
well known cases of such abuse of Administrative Detention in the State of
Israel.

In 1995 a Kiryat Arba resident, Shmuel Cytryn, who had served in the
Golani brigade in the
Lebanon war, and had no criminal record whatsoever, was arrested on
December 4, 1995, a
month AFTER the Rabin assassination, and jailed under an Administrative
Detention order.

According to the Jerusalem weekly, "Kol Ha'ir", Cytryn's crime might have
been that he irritated the General Security Service by being the first to
charge that Avishai Raviv was a Shabak agent and provocateur. This was
three months BEFORE Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's
assassination, and well before Raviv was exposed as an agent for the
Shabak, whose particular assignment was to discredit the national
religious camp. As an example, Avishai Raviv ran the Eyal organization to
which Yigal Amir belonged. Shmuel Cytryn's family believed that the
reason that their son and husband was arrested and isolated in jail was
that he should not be able to publish details of Avishai Raviv's activities
from there.

Because of public outcry by civil libertarians, both in Israel and the United
States, Shmuel
Cytryn was finally granted a court hearing. "We don't have the slightest
idea what the man has been detained for, even in a general sense,"
Cytryn's lawyer told the court, asking it to examine the classified evidence
against Cytryn and to enlighten him.

After doing so, the head of the court, Justice Aharon Barak, said that
Cytryn was being held
because of "an extremist world view and extreme statements, which, in the
estimation of the
security services, could lead with relative ease to acts that would endanger
the security of the region."

Cytryn's lawyer responded "this is something for which it is forbidden to
put someone in
Administrative Detention. A man is permitted to have twisted opinions, as
long as he does not incite."

After the Justices left the room to examine the classified evidence, Cytryn
began screaming at his guards.

"Why are you doing this? Because I said the General Security Service is
responsible for Prime Minister Rabin's death? "

At the end of the hearing, Cytryn asked to make a statement to the court, in
which he attacked the reliability of the classified evidence, noting that
anyone could spread lies and have them entered into the GSS's file on him.

"I don't intend to eat anymore," he said, his voice choking with tears. "I see
no reason that I should be in this position. I have a family that has been
destroyed… I am not willing to accept any compromise. I am not a
terrorist."

Another glaring example of Administrative Detention abuse was the arrest
and imprisonment of
a prominent and highly respected Rabbi, Yitzhak Ginsburgh, on charges of
incitement to
violence and endangerment of public safety. The Administrative Detention
order was signed by then Minister of Defense, Shimon Peres. Rabbi
Ginsburgh was the head of "Od Yosef Chai"
Yeshiva in Shchem (Nablus), which was located next to the Jewish Holy
site of the Tomb of
Yosef, the son of the patriarch Yaakov. Yosef had died in Egypt but
requested that the Jews
take his bones along to be buried in the Holy Land. (Genesis 50: 24-26)

A Jerusalem Post editorial of March 19, 1996, expressed the belief that the
Government was
not concerned about incitement, but rather wanted to dismantle Rabbi
Ginsburgh's "Od Yosef
Chai" Yeshiva, because it felt that this was a politically awkward site and a
security burden.

(The sad result of this government attitude was that Joseph's Tomb and the
adjacent Yeshiva
were shamefully abandoned under a violent attack by the Arabs in the year
2000.
Unfortunately, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has not reclaimed this Holy site,
which even under the Oslo Accords belongs to the Jews and the State of
Israel.)

The latest victim of Administrative Detention abuse is Noam Federman, a
34 year old man with
a wife and seven children, the oldest twelve years old, and the youngest
one year old. He has literally been whisked away from his family and
imprisoned in solitary confinement since
September 22 of this year, without being charged. He has been put in a cell
block together with Arab terrorist murderers, who continually shout threats
against his life.

To protest his incarceration, Noam Federman has started a hunger strike.
He has already lost 20 kilos (44 pounds), because he is only consuming
liquids. His wife, Elisheva, has asked that these liquids be either milk or
juice in order that he have some nourishment, but her request has been
denied. She has further requested that a doctor be allowed to examine
him. This request has been denied as well by the Shabak. No one is
allowed to visit him in prison, not even his wife Elisheva. She has seen him
only twice since his imprisonment, once during the Sukkot holiday, and
one other time when the court ordered that he be allowed to attend his
daughter's Bat Mitzvah celebration for two hours. On both these occasions
Noam Federman was in handcuffs and leg-irons, and chained to a Shabak
agent, so that he could not have a private conversation with anyone,
including his wife.

Noam Federman is a law school graduate, but is forbidden to practice law.
Some people
believe that the reason for Federman's imprisonment is that he has
published a booklet which
advises people who are arrested by the Shabak, amongst other authorities,
of their legal rights, such as being silent when interrogated.

The cases of Shmuel Cytryn, Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburgh and Noam
Federman are a sad commentary on the civil rights of Jewish Israeli
citizens.

Convicted Arab terrorist murderers are being released in groups of
hundreds, allowing them to immediately organize further attacks and to
once again kill Jews. Jewish citizens, on the other hand, are put in
Administrative Detention for political reasons by a government fearful of
popular protest.

But it is one thing to use emergency wartime regulations to fight the
country's enemies and
preserve its security interests, and quite another to employ them arbitrarily
to intimidate political opponents!

A note to civil libertarians: To protest abuses of civil rights only when
leftists and Palestinians are affected is to mock justice. To arbitrarily throw
Noam Federman in jail is to mock democracy.

Join us in demanding: CHARGE NOAM FEDERMAN OR FREE HIM!

Or you may well ask yourself: WHO IS NEXT?

What can you do to help obtain justice for Noam Federman? Telephone,
fax or email Prime
Minister Sharon at: Tel - 02-6705555, Fax - 02-5664838, Email -
webmaster@pmo.gov.il.

Administrative Detention orders must be signed by the Defense Minister.
Shaul Mofaz, who is
the current Defense Minister, signed Noam Federman's Detention order.
Telephone, fax or
email Shaul Mofaz at: Tel - 03-6976663, Fax - 03-6976218, Email -
sar@mod.gov.il.

ATTEMPTED MANIPULATION OF PUBLIC OPINION IN ISRAEL

LETTER FROM RUTH MATAR (WOMEN IN GREEN) JERUSALEM
Thursday, November 20, 2003

Dear Friends,

In the days after I send out my weekly letter from Jerusalem, I get many
email messages from you. This is most gratifying - it is so important that
we, who love Israel, are in touch with each other's feelings and opinions.

The emails I received, after the November 13 letter about the Shabak, made
me realize that I might be doing our cause a disservice by describing to
you in such detail all the problems we face in Israel today.

Here are some excerpts from these letters:

"The cases of Shmuel Cytryn, Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh, and Noam
Federman are a sad commentary on the civil rights of Jewish Israeli
citizens. This frightens me terribly -- I have close family in Israel!"

My answer: "Only political opponents, who are considered by the Shabak
to be a threat to the 'system', are in danger of being put in Administrative
Detention, not the average Israeli citizen."

"My husband and I plan Aliyah in 2 and half years. My husband is afraid
that if we write letters to the government, our Aliyah will be made difficult, if
not impossible. Do you believe this could be the situation?"

My answer: "No, writing letters to the Government will not make your
Aliyah more difficult. However, it is essential that the opinions of people
outside the Holy Land, both Jews and Christians, are relayed to the Israeli
government. You do have a very definite influence on our government."

These emails gave me the definite impression that dwelling so much on the
negative, is giving the Arabs, who want to drive us into the sea a real
victory, by fostering defeatist feelings amongst us.

The solution: it is imperative to keep the following important facts in mind.
That the Jewish People have returned to the Land which the G-d of Israel
has promised them for eternity. And that it is a very good Land, flowing
with milk and honey.

As Jews are ingathered to their Homeland, they come with all kinds of
baggage from the countries where they lived. Not all of this baggage is of
the most desirable kind. Many of the early returnees came from
Communist countries and hence their weltanschauung was definitely
colored.

I firmly believe that any bad events in Israel today are just evidence of birth
pangs or labor pains (pun intended) associated with the rebirth of Israel.

Twice the Labor Party has run campaigns in which it advocated negotiating
under the threat of terrorism; twice it tried to promote the standard mantras
of the Left, that if we do not hurry and pull a diplomatic solution from a hat,
Israel will cease to be a Jewish State, a democracy, or both. Twice, the
Labor Party and its opinions were rejected by the electorate by a landslide.

But the Labor Party goes by the principle, that if you do not succeed at
first, try and try again. Therefore, the public has now been treated to
further Labor Party schemes, amongst them, Yossi Beilin's Geneva
Initiative, and the leftist propaganda spouted in the interview given to the
largest newspaper in Israel by four former Shabak chiefs.

These heavily financed attempts to manipulate Israeli public opinion are, of
course, enthusiastically promoted by the Leftist media. Two prime
examples are:

YOSSI BEILIN'S GENEVA INITIATIVE

Supported in large part by European Union funding, about 1.5 million
copies of the Geneva Accord were sent out countrywide last Sunday in
Israel, with another 1.5 million copies to follow in the coming days. Beilin's
Geneva Accord has won international praise, including from US Secretary
of State Colin Powell, but has been rejected by the legitimate government
of Israel.

Who is this Yossi Beilin? He is the man who secretly and illegally worked
with Shimon Peres to negotiate the Oslo Accords. He is the man whom
Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin called Peres' poodle, which designation
Rabin did not mean in a complimentary way. He is the man who, when
asked what he would give his children as a reason to remain Jewish,
replied: "I can't think of a single reason to give them." He is the man who
has gone to our enemies in the European Union and elsewhere to obtain
millions of dollars to promote his nefarious scheme for Israel's demise. He
is the man who in the last election, failed to even get enough votes to
become one of 120 Knesset Members!

Of course, only a legitimate government is allowed to negotiate any
agreement. Of course, it is illegal for any citizen to negotiate with a foreign
entity, pretending to be a representative of the government. And being a
failed politician, rejected by the Israeli electorate, does not give Beilin any
more power than the rest of us would have.

I am not going to bother you with the provisions of this plan, which some
people feel borders on treason. Beilin not only gives the Arabs all of
Judea, Samaria, Gaza, large parts of Jerusalem, and incredibly, the holiest
place of Judaism, the Temple Mount. He also gives the Arabs chunks of
land within the 1967 borders, within the so-called Green Line.

I will give you just one example. There is a street in Jerusalem, called Emek
Refaim. It is a street with many stores, restaurants and cafes. It is the very
street of the Hillel Cafe terror attack, where Dr. David Applebaum and his
daughter Nava, amongst other victims, were murdered. Beilin wants to
give this street to the Arabs, because the Arabs maintain that there is a
Muslim cemetery on this street! Need I say more about the Geneva
Initiative?

AN INTERVIEW WITH FOUR FORMER HEADS OF THE SHABAK IN THE
NOVEMBER 14, 2003, ISSUE OF YEDIOT AHRONOT

Who are these four former heads of the Shabak?

AVRAHAM SHALOM, the least known and most veteran of the group, was
its only member appointed by a Likud government, that of Menachem
Begin. But Shalom stepped down following the Bus 300 affair, and was
later given clemency by the president along with other Shin Bet officials.

YA'ACOV PERI was appointed in 1988 by the unity government of Yitzhak
Shamir and Shimon Peres, when Yitzhak Rabin was defense minister. He
headed the Shin Bet during most of the "first intifada" and stepped down
seven months before Rabin's assassination. His dovish views and
association with the Labor Party have been established for some time.

CARMI GILLON was appointed by Yitzhak Rabin in 1995 and took the brunt
of the blame for failing to prevent Rabin's assassination.

Finally, AMI AYALON was appointed by Shimon Peres, and has put forth,
along with Palestinian intellectual Sari Nusseibeh, a diplomatic initiative
along the lines of the Clinton parameters.

In this interview, these former Shabak heads discuss their views as to how
Israel would remain a democracy and a home for the Jewish People. They
advocate that any "settler" who does not agree to leave Judea, Samaria,
Gaza and large parts of Jerusalem, should have an "Altalena" done against
them. AMI AYALON said, "In the history of every nation, there is more
than one Altalena." (The Altalena was a ship of Jewish refugees and
weapons, organized by Menachem Begin's Irgun, that arrived on the shores
of Tel Aviv in 1948. A young officer by the name of Yitzhak Rabin was
commanded by Ben Gurion, the head of the first provisional Government of
the state of Israel, to destroy the ship before all of the passengers
disembarked. 16 Jews were murdered in an event that almost triggered a
Civil War.)

AVRAHAM SHALOM is quoted as follows: "So let's solve the problem as if
they were Arabs. Lock 15 of them in administrative detention, and see how
the rest disappear. I said another thing: you say they're like Hamas? Are
they willing to die? The answer was unequivocally: no. So I am more
optimistic. When we leave them there alone, they will come. You better
believe it. They will come. They will come."

When asked, "Does the possibility of Civil War (if Israel retreats from
Judea, Samaria and Gaza) not scare you?" CARMI GILON answered: "This
is the idea and there is no way around it, other than going towards
confrontation."

YA'ACOV PERI contributed the following: "I don't see any way to avoid this
confrontation. There will always be groups or individuals that for them
Israel dwells between the hills of Shchem and Hebron, and with them we
will have to have a confrontation. I don't underrate the significance of
Hebron the city of our forefathers. However, Hebron must be returned to
the Palestinians and any Jews who live there today, sooner or later will
have to be expelled."

Wow, this sure is scary stuff. The last four heads of Israel's Secret Police,
known as the Shabak, call for another Altalena style affair to bring about a
final solution for Jewish "settlement" in Judea, Samaria, Gaza, and East
Jerusalem. They don't even seem to mind a Civil War!

Time to wake up, fellow lovers of Israel!

I agree with former president Ezer Weitzman, who said: "These 'four
musketeers' are a great danger to the rest of us."

After reading the virulent hatred of former key security chiefs in Israel, it is
perhaps no coincidence that Arutz 7, the popular "settler" mouthpiece, was
shut down, and that Noam Federman, a "settler" activist from Hebron, has
been put in Administrative Detention.

My co-chair Nadia Matar, who lives in Efrat with her family, and another
Women in Green leader, Anita Finkelstein, have filed the following
complaint against former Shabak head Ami Ayalon, with the Attorney
General Elyakim Rubenstein.

"In the Yediot Ahronot article Ami Ayalon suggests to deal with the
problematic settlers who refuse to leave their homes out of their free will,
by doing an 'Altalena' against them. Anybody who knows the story of the
Altalena (in which 16 Jews, political opponents of Ben Gurion, were
murdered by Jews under the command of Yitzhak Rabin) knows that a call
for an 'Altalena' against a political opponent is incitement to murder. As
proud settlers, who live in Efrat and Tekoa, who do not plan on ever
agreeing to leave our homes under our own free will, Ami Ayalon's words
are a direct threat on our own lives, the lives of our families, and the lives
of our friends in all of Yesha. Most of them feel like us. His words are not
only a threat for the future, if G-d forbid, Ayalon will enter a political life, but
they are already a threat now. There is no doubt, that as an ex-head of
Shabak, his words are taken very seriously by all security forces. Who
knows if his murderous suggestions have not already been adopted by the
security forces as a policy for the near future, if and when they will be
asked to uproot Jews from 'settlements.' Will the 'holy and murderous
cannon against the Altalena' be used against those who refuse to evacuate,
like Ami Ayalon suggests? In addition, his words represent sheer
incitement to the Arabs to focus on murdering the 'problematic' Jews in
Yesha. We hope that the Attorney General will take this complaint against
Ami Ayalon seriously, despite the fact that Ayalon belongs to the left wing
camp. Sadly, we know that in our country the people on the left have more
free speech than those of the national camp. Lately, a simple citizen was
put to trial for handing out the stickers 'No Arabs, No terror' and a rabbi
was put to trial for an article he wrote. Therefore, we have no doubt that
you will put to trial an ex-Shabak head calling for the murder of 'settlers.' If
not, we will know which kind of country we live in, George Orwell wrote a
book about it."

Dear friends, I will keep you informed as to what happens with regard to
this complaint.

Sorry, I did it again. This did not turn out to be a very cheerful letter from
Jerusalem. However, we cannot, ostrich like, bury our heads in the sand,
as the left is out to destroy anyone who disagrees with them.

Now for the good news. The leftist extremists who control the courts, the
media, and the Shabak in Israel are a dying minority. Now they can still
threaten their "Altalenas" and wage their private wars against their political
rivals. However, the majority of the Israeli People will not support a civil
war against the "settlers". Nor will they allow another "Altalena" against
political opponents.

And above all, it is comforting to know that the G-d of Israel is squarely on
our side.

With Blessings and Love for Israel,

Ruth Matar

To Be A Jew In A Hostile World

Nowadays it is fashionable to be anti-Semitic. What used to be whispered,
and said in low voices, has now been allowed to be openly and publicly
stated. The Arab and Muslim world have had tremendous success with
their incessant propaganda in this regard. In view of the tremendous
positive contributions Jews and Judaism have made to mankind and to
Western Civilization throughout the ages, this is not to be understood. One
can only marvel as to why these unwarranted and false accusations have
gained prominence and are so widely repeated.

The facts are that this relatively tiny and gifted people have had a
tremendous impact on this world of ours. Especially is this true with regard
to religion, but in many other fields as well. Mankind is better off today
because there are Jews. The spiritual concept of One G-d is Jewish in
origin, and of course the Jewish Prophets have had an impact on whatever
morality that exists in the world today. The Old Testament Bible is still
hallowed as a major source of religious belief. Many people, both
Christians and Jews, live by its precepts.

Despite the recent Holocaust that decimated the Jewish People, they have
returned to their ancient Homeland, and miraculously rebuilt it. They made
the wasteland they came to into a democratic land of milk and honey,
excelling in science, technology, and agriculture. They freely gave these
contributions to the world. Due to Arab continued hostility, they have had
to relearn the art of military warfare, and of necessity, to excel in it.

All out of proportion to their numbers, they have continually won Nobel
Prizes in health, science ,technology, and in many other fields of endeavor.
The benefits to mankind down through the ages have been quite
phenomenal. Nevertheless, anti-Semitism persists and is spreading. Jews
and Israel, in recent European polls, are claimed to represent a threat to
world peace. In the light of their magnificent contributions to mankind, this
type of nonsense makes no sense whatsoever.

To be a Jew in a hostile world is not easy. Yet, any Jew can take enormous
pride in the accomplishments of His People to make this a better and safer
world. Israel is in the forefront of this endeavor, and should be encouraged
and supported by America and many other nations. Unfortunately, in this
imperfect world, that is not the case. The absurd Arab funded propaganda
directed against the Jews and Israel is being widely believed. That Arab
campaign has no foundation in fact or truth and will, if followed, eventually
only cause great harm and damage to all of mankind.

POLLARD=DREYFUS
A CHANGE OF VENUE - BUT A REPEAT PERFOMANCE!

LETTER FROM RUTH MATAR (WOMEN IN GREEN) JERUSALEM
Wednesday, November 26, 2003

Dear Friends,

The following is an excerpt from an article in the FORWARD, of November
21, 2003, a New York newspaper.

"… Activists in support of convicted American spy Jonathan Pollard
leveled a charge of negligence (against leaders of American Jewry and PM
Sharon.) Protesters gathered outside the opening ceremony (of the GA) on
Sunday night, holding signs that read 'Pollard=Dreyfus' and chanting 'Free
Pollard'. Not content with the street demonstration and an earlier prayer
service at the Western Wall, a dozen protesters disrupted Prime Minister
Sharon's speech from the audience, screaming 'Bring Pollard Home Now'
while delegates booed. Inexplicably, security officials allowed the
protesters to remain; after sitting quietly for three minutes, they interrupted
Sharon's speech a second time before organizers removed them from the
hall. Some of the delegates sitting in their section helped out by punching
the protesters as they made their way to the door…"

How very sad! Jews beating Jews! Why are the General Assembly
delegates so angered at the protesters' demand to free Jonathan Pollard,
so as to physically attack them? Were they embarrassed by the cry for
help from these young Israelis?

Unfortunately, Jewish Americans have not been in the forefront of
demanding justice for Jonathan Pollard. Jews rarely protest mistreatment
of other Jews, lest they themselves become targets for anti-Semitism, and
in this particular case, accusations of dual loyalty. It is much safer to fight
for other causes, and to speak boldly, but only if the victim is not a Jew.
For Jews who are wronged, they speak about using quiet diplomacy, when
in fact they do nothing.

"Quiet Diplomacy" did not work for freeing the Soviet Jews to immigrate to
Israel. It was only the loud, continual and tough protests that finally
achieved a revolution that freed one million Soviet Jews. Ask Natan
Sharansky, Ida Nudel and the other former jailed Soviet refusniks, who had
the personal courage to defy the cruel anti-Semitic Soviets and, pretty
much had to go it alone.

All the cards seem stacked against Pollard. November 21, 2003, marked
the completion of Jonathan Pollard's 18th year in prison and the start of
year 19 of a life sentence, with no end in sight. Jonathan's sentence was
unjustly obtained in complete violation of his constitutional rights, and in
open violation of a plea agreement which Jonathan honored and the
government abrogated. He has already served time longer in prison than
any other person in the U.S. ever convicted of a similar offense.

As an example: Abdel Kader Helmy, an Egyptian American rocket scientist,
participated in a scheme to illegally ship ballistic missile technology --
technology later used to help increase the range of Iraq's Scud-B missiles.
Helmy got less than a four year sentence. Jonathan, who warned Israel, a
U.S. ally, about Iraq's capabilities, got life.

A short summary of the Pollard case: Jonathan Pollard was a Jewish
American Naval Intelligence Analyst. In the mid 1980's, he discovered that
information vital to Israel's security was being deliberately withheld by the
United States. This information included Syrian, Iraqi, Libyan, and Iranian
nuclear, chemical, and biological warfare. According to a 1983
Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Israel, the
United States was legally obligated to pass such information on to Israel.

Pollard at first pursued legal channels to have this information passed to
Israel. When he asked his superiors why evidence of Iraqi's development
of nerve and biological gasses was not being shared with Israel, he was
told, "Jews are too sensitive to gas". When all American authorities up to
the Pentagon refused to relay this intelligence information to Israel, Pollard
took it upon himself to do so. He told Israel about the French building a
nuclear reactor for Iraq, and Israel used this information to bomb Iraq's
nuclear reactor in 1981. The information about chemical and biological
weapons led Israel to revamp its entire civil defense program to include
gas masks, sealed rooms, and biological and chemical antidotes.

Pollard's disclosures to Israel were potentially a great embarrassment to
the American administration. If made public, they would have proved that
not only were the Americans withholding vital security information from
Israel, in violation of their agreement, but even more damning, that the
United States was covertly aiding and arming Iraq, in hopes that it would
overthrow the regime in Iran. This secret aid, by the way, continued up
until the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait!

In an article in the Wall Street Journal published February 15, 1991, Pollard
claimed that "American appeasement of Iraq made me a spy".

JONATHAN POLLARD: "…the photos that I turned over to the Israelis were
of a number of Iraqi chemical weapons and manufacturing plants which the
government did not want to admit existed. Why? …What the
administration was really concerned about was being placed in a position
where it would have to admit that it had tacitly condoned the creation of an
Iraqi chemical weapons manufacturing capability."

Since his arrest Jonathan Pollard has publicly and repeatedly expressed
his remorse. He regrets having broken the law, and is sorry he did not find
a legal means to act upon his concerns for Israel.

Jonathan Pollard is the only person in the history of the United States to
receive a life sentence for spying for an American ally. Why did Jonathan
Pollard expose himself to the dangers of spending his life in prison? He
certainly did not do it for material gains!

Yes, Jonathan broke the law, but by doing so he saved countless Israeli
and American lives. Imagine if Iraq had had nuclear capability in 1991! In a
letter to his Rabbi, published in that same issue of the Wall Street Journal,
he explains his motivation:

"So what was I supposed to so? Let Israel fend for herself? If you think
that is what I should have done, then how can we condemn all those… who
during the Second World Was consciously participated in the
abandonment of European Jewry? Seriously, Rabbi, what would be the
difference between what they did and a decision on my part to have kept
silent about the Iraqi poison gas threat to Israel? I'd rather be rotting in
prison then sitting Shiva for hundreds of thousands of Israelis who could
have died because of my cowardice."

When Prime Minister Ariel Sharon introduced his new government, he
promised he would work to free "our MIA's, the prisoners of war, and
Azzam Azzam". He pointedly omitted another Israeli citizen imprisoned
abroad, Jonathan Pollard. Even though the government of Israel has
recognized Pollard as an Israeli agent, it has taken no concrete actions to
free him, except for Netanyahu's attempt at the Wye Plantation, where
President Clinton reneged on his promise to free Pollard.

* * *

Just days before the General Assembly of United Jewish Communities met,
a U.S. District Court rejected Pollard's request for resentencing or, for that
matter, a fair hearing with the heretofore SECRET WEINBERGER
MEMORANDUM unwrapped from its 19 years of secrecy.

The secrecy of the Weinberger Memorandum has always greatly bothered
me. Why, 18 years after Jonathan's incarceration, is he not allowed to
know what is in that secret Memorandum which persuaded the trial judge
to sentence him to life imprisonment? Why aren't Pollard's lawyers
allowed to see this Memorandum? And why aren't the American people
allowed to know what is in it?

I kept trying to jog my memory about Casper Weinberger -- then it came to
me. President Bush, Sr. at the tail end of his presidency, had "pardoned"
Casper Weinberger.

Pardoned him for what? I decided to do some background research. Thank
G-d for Internet! The search I did revealed the information that President
Bush, Sr. pardoned six people for their role in the Iran-Contra scandal.
Casper Weinberger was one of them.

In addition, I found the following information about Casper Weinberger:

Weinberger was Secretary of Defense during the course of the Iran-Contra
affair. In June, 1992, he was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of
concealing from congressional investigators and prosecutors thousands of
pages of his handwritten notes. The personal notes, taken during high level
meetings, detailed events in 1985 and 1986 involving the Iran-Contra affair.
Weinberger claimed he was being unfairly prosecuted because he would
not provide information incriminating former President Ronald Reagan.

Weinberger was scheduled to go on trial January 5, where the contents of
his notes would have come to light and may have implicated other,
unindicted, conspirators. While never directly linked to the covert
operations of the Iran-Contra affair, he is believed to have been involved in
the cover-up of the ensuing scandal.

According to Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh, Weinberger's notes
contain evidence of a conspiracy among the highest-ranking Reagan
administration officials to lie to Congress and the American public. SOME
OF THE NOTES ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE EVIDENCE AGAINST THEN VICE-
PRESIDENT GEORGE BUSH.

The mention of the Iran-Contra affair rang a bell. I had a vague memory
reading about this affair in "The Secret War Against the Jews" by John
Loftus and Mark Aarons. I went back to this book and very carefully re-
read chapter 18, "The Iran-Contra Debacle". If you want to learn the truth
about the Pollard affair, don't fail to study this whole chapter very carefully.

As a practical matter, Pollard had little access either to communications
intercept or satellite data, let alone secret National Security Agency codes.
His primary access was to U.S. Navy data banks on ocean shipping. In the
spring and summer of 1984, Pollard noticed a pattern of vessels going back
and forth from Greece to Yemen, where the PLO had a major base. Pollard
never realized that he had busted the most secret White House operation of
modern times. The summer 1984 Greek shipment was a dagger over
Bush's head.

To this day, Congress believes that the Israelis started the Iranian arms-for-
hostage-deals in 1985. The problem with that is that Bush's shipment
through Greece took place an ENTIRE YEAR earlier. The Greek shipment
in 1984 exposes the entire successful White House cover-up. Just recently
have the Israelis begun to work out that they were dragged into Iran-Contra
as scapegoats for a bungled Bush-British smuggling operation.

Because Bush Senior realized that he had led the intelligence community
into complete disaster, he publicly blamed the Jews for the Iran-Contra
scandal. And, of course, Jonathan Pollard became the perfect "fall guy"
for the whole mess of the Iran-Contra debacle.

Chapter 18 of "The Secret War Against the Jews" uncovers powerful anti-
Semitic forces in the U.S. intelligence community hiding behind the secret
Weinberger Memorandum.

A few words about Casper Weinberger's personal background:

His father was Jewish, but he seemed to go out of his way to oppose Israel
on any issue, and to blame the Israelis for every problem in the Middle
East. Weinberger's anti-Israeli tilt was an underlying current in almost
every Mid-East issue. Some people explained it by pointing to his years
with the anti-Semitic Bechtel Corporation, with which the Bush family has
always maintained very close ties.

Other people believed it was more complicated and had to do with his
sensitivity about his own Jewish ancestry. Either way, it seems quite clear
that the motivation for Casper Weinberger's secret Memorandum is
unadulterated anti-Semitism.

Why did I use the title "Pollard=Dreyfus?" I hereby confess: I was the one
who made these posters carried by the demonstrators outside the
convention hall, and I was the one who made sure that the photographers
saw us. I do feel that it is important that we understand the almost
identical nature of these two cases.

1. In both cases there was extraordinarily cruel treatment. Dreyfus was
imprisoned in the solitary hell of Devil's Island; Pollard is in Butner Prison
in North Carolina, where many of his fellow prisoners are black Muslims
and American Nazis who continually threaten his life.

2. The major Dreyfus protagonists, Georges Picquart and Emile Zola, were
gentiles. Likewise, of the three judges reviewing Pollard's trial, only Steven
Williams, the only non-Jew, said unequivocally: "The Government's
conduct in this case resulted in a fundamental and complete miscarriage of
justice. "

3. Dreyfus' counterintelligence co-workers falsified documents. His chief
detractor, Major Hubert Henry, furtively submitted a forged document to the
presiding judges just before the verdict, leading to a unanimous guilty
verdict. Casper Weinberger slipped a recommendation to Pollard's judge.
In both cases, the submission was illicit, and the contents of the
documents kept from the public and the defense. In both cases, the
accusing parties were anti-Semitic.

4. The French Jewish community distanced itself from the Dreyfus affair;
so has the U.S. Jewish Community distanced itself from Jonathan Pollard.

Jonathan Pollard warned of dangers that not only threatened Israel, but the
entire Western world. Will his reward be to spend his entire life in a prison
cell?

Is There Any Difference between the Beilin Plan and that of the Yesha
Communities?

(The following is a translation of Nadia Matar's Hebrew show on radio Arutz
7 Internet)

The members of Moetset Yesha (the Council of Jewish Communities in
Judea,
Samaria, and Gaza) are our dear brethren, who labor day and night in the
defense of the people of Israel, the Land of Israel, and the Torah of
Israel. In the coming days the Council will initiate two extremely
important projects, in which we shall all participate and help to succeed:
a campaign against the establishment of a Palestinian state in Judea,
Samaria, and Gaza, and a campaign against the uprooting of settlements,
that will include giving wide publicity to the statement by the Prime
Minister against the uprooting of Netzarim. "Netzarim has the same
standing as Negbah and Tel Aviv. The evacuation of Netzarim will only
encourage terror and intensify the pressure against us." (Prime Minister
Ariel Sharon, March 24, 2002)

Notwithstanding our esteem for the struggle waged by Moetset Yesha
against
Ariel Sharon's plans, scathing criticism should still be directed against
the "political plan" that the Council, together with Rabbi Hanan Porat, is
currently formulating, the general details of which appeared in the media
this week. The plan was first presented to the Jewish people in the weekly
Me'at min ha-Or sheet for the Torah portion of Lekh Lekha this year
(November 8, 2003). Anyone who reads the plan without focusing on its
details could erroneously think that this is a fine accomplishment. Its
Basic Principles include what we all believe: "Eretz Israel belongs to the
Jewish people throughout all time, and it will return to all its expanses,
as was promised by God. Accordingly, the people of Israel shall strive for
full sovereignty over all of Eretz Israel, and shall vigorously oppose the
establishment in it of any foreign national entity." This sounds
wonderful, but when we read further, we begin to understand that this is a
document that is liable to turn into a disaster for all time, and we must
hope that we have the ability to halt the composers of the plan, and to
persuade them to shelve their program.

The following are the most problematic points in the program of Moetset
Yesha:

(1)"Independent regional administrations of the Arab population will be
established, within six to ten districts throughout Judea, Samaria, and
Gaza." "Independent administration" for the Arabs of Judea, Samaria, and
Gaza ("autonomy" in plain English) is a mistake, and we must delete this
idea from our national lexicon. We must understand that any autonomy
given
to a minority, is the basis for a foreign national entity. As soon as you
grant autonomy to a minority within the population, you are actually giving
them the basis for their turning into a national entity and, worst of all,
you are actually affording recognition to the national rights of that
minority. For if this were not so, you would not give them autonomy. For
example: Moetset Yesha, - nor any other body in Israel, not even any
extreme left organization - would not dream of granting autonomy to the
hundreds of thousands of foreign workers who are in our country. If the
foreign workers were to launch a violent intifada, with the demand to
receive national rights from us, we would tell them that they have no right
to our land, and that if they want to realize their national rights, they
must return to their homeland. And we would continue to tell them this,
even if, Heaven forbid, they would still be living here in another fifty years.

The same rules that apply to the foreign workers must also apply to the
Arabs. Just as foreign workers do not have nay national rights to Eretz
Israel, so, too, the Arabs here have no national rights to our Land. We
therefore cannot give them autonomy. As Rabbi Aviner wrote in an article,
"No state in the world has autonomy for its minorities. In France there are
ten million Arabs - and they certainly will not receive autonomy. And
similarly, in every county in the world, including the United States. If
the minorities want a state - let them return to their land of origin."

(2) The plan of Yesha speaks of the "continuities," that is, in addition to
separation between Arabs and Jews by means of different administrative
regions; transportation separation, as well, will come into being by
creating a transportation continuity for Arabs, and another transportation
continuity for Jews, that will enable free movement within it from any one
point to any other. That too would be a disaster.

We must understand that as soon as you acknowledge the need for a
separate
"Palestinian continuity," you are actually dividing the land, in terms of
settlement. And so, you have, de facto, waived forever our right to settle
in the Jewish areas that are currently under Arab occupation, such as
Shechem (Nablus), Bethlehem, Jericho, Jenin, and more. It is common
knowledge that there are those in the national camp who have already
abandoned the idea of Jewish settlement in these areas. These are small
minded people, lacking any vision, and we cannot be drawn after them.

Twenty years ago, who would have believed that there would be Jewish
settlement in Silwan? Now there is a blooming Jewish community there,
and
so it is with other places. We believe that, with God's help, Jews will yet
return to live in Shechem, Jericho, and Bethlehem, just as we returned to
Beit El, Shiloh, and Hebron. The Council of Jewish Communities in Judea,
Samaria, and Gaza, cannot, and must not, formulate plans that, de facto,
forgo our return to these locations.

(3) We are at war with the Arabs over this land. This is a national war, of
one people against another. Our goal, therefore, must be to do everything
so that the Arabs will feel that this is not their place, and that they
would do better if they were to move their place of residence to the Arab
countries. Instead , Moetset Yesha comes with its plan and arranges
everything for the Arabs, making life easier for them. And we ask: Why?
Why help the Arabs to settle in here, in our land? Things are happening
throughout the world. We read that al-Qaida has reestablished itself, and
promises to conduct mass terror attacks in the United States. Who knows
what will happen in the coming months and years? Perhaps they will
conduct
a terror attack so horrifying that the American government will be forced
to transfer the millions of Arabs in the United States back to the Arab
lands? That would give us the possibility to finally do the same thing
here. Why should we formulate plans that give the Arab enemy any national
right to our land, and that make it more difficult for us to implement
transfer in the future?

(4) Especially serious is the fact that it is Moetset Yesha - that is
considered to be the standard-bearer of Eretz Israel Hashlema (the land of
Israel in its entirety) - that proposes a plan that is built on the
ideology of the Israeli left, and that fundamentally waives our rights to
the entire Land. We ask: Who entitled you to concoct such a plan? Let's be
honest: in any event, no one will relate to the essential message of what
you are saying, but will focus solely on your concessions. So then why do
this? And another question: Really, what is the difference between your
plan and that of Yossi Beilin? Beilin abandoned the Temple Mount; and the
Council of Jewish Communities in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza intends to, de
facto, abandon Shechem, Jericho, and all the rest. Who appointed you to
do
this?

Here is the place to remind you that the only political plan with which
Moetset Yesha is charged is the excellent plan called "All of Eretz Israel
belongs to the Jewish People of Israel, in accordance with the Torah of
Israel and the Promise of the Lord of the Universe.."

We call upon you, our brethren in Moetset Yesha, to refrain from disastrous
political plans. Let us work together, and struggle together, against the
malicious plans of Ariel Sharon, and, with God's help, we shall
prevail. Together we shall proclaim: "The vision of Eretz Israel Hashlema
(All of Israel belongs to the Jews) is alive and well! Its bearers shall
neither grow weary or fail.- 'Hazak, Hazak, Ve-Nithazek' - 'Let us be
strong and resolute for the sake of our people and the cities of our God!'"
(II Samuel 10:12)

Protesting Minister Olmert's Consent to Iniquity

Women In Green will protest on Tuesday, December 2, 2003,

at 10:45 A.M. at the Mashbir Plaza in Jerusalem against the decision of Minister
of Trade, Ehud Olmert to capitulate to the EU's rascist actions.

? We will wear a Yellow Patch on our shirts.

? We will have a Petition For the Public To Sign

? We will bring products made in Yesha. We will have a raffle and the lucky
winners will receive such a product as a prize. The raffle will take place at 11:30
A.M.

The EU requested that products of Yesha, in Judea, Samaria,

Gaza and the Golan be specifically labeled and Olmert consented. Thus, in
effect, Olmert was putting a Yellow Star of David on each such product.
This racist act was required so that the Europeans would not buy products
from Jews. Thus, Jews would be forced to leave Biblical communities
which they helped to restore.

Write, fax, phone or email Minister Olmert today to tell him that you
are greatly displeased with his disloyal action. His snail address is:
Ministry of Trade , Agron Street, Jerusalem, Israel.

His phone is: 972 2 666 2253 His fax is: 972 2 6662909

His email is: sar@moit.gov.il

To witness injustice being done, and not raise your voice in protest,
is to accept iniquity. Tomorrow, you may be the target!

Geneva Sellout
By Charles Krauthammer
Friday, November 28, 2003

On Monday, a peace agreement will be signed by Israelis and Palestinians.
This "Geneva accord" has gotten much attention. And the signing itself will
be greeted with much hoopla. Journalists are being flown in from around
the world by the Swiss government. Jimmy Carter will be heading a list of
foreign dignitaries. The U.S. Embassy in Bern will be sending an observer.

This is all rather peculiar: The agreement is being signed not by Israeli and
Palestinian officials, but by two people with no power.

On the Palestinian side, the negotiator is former information minister
Yasser Abed Rabbo, who at least is said to have Yasser Arafat's ear. The
Israeli side, however, is led by Yossi Beilin, a man whose political standing
in his own country is so low that he failed to make it into Parliament. After
helping bring his Labor Party to ruin, Beilin abandoned it for the far-left
Meretz Party, which then did so badly in the last election that Beilin is now
a private citizen.

There is a reason why he is one of Israel's most reviled and discredited
politicians. He was the principal ideologue and architect behind the
"peace" foisted on Israel in 1993. Those Oslo agreements have brought a
decade of the worst terror in all Israeli history.

Now he is at it again. And Secretary of State Colin Powell has written a
letter to Beilin and Rabbo expressing appreciation for their effort, and is
now planning to meet with them.

This is scandalous. Israel is a democracy, and this agreement was
negotiated in defiance of the democratically (and overwhelmingly) elected
government of Israel. If a private U.S. citizen negotiated a treaty on his own,
he could go to jail under the Logan Act. If an Israeli does it, he gets a pat on
the back from the secretary of state.

Moreover, this "peace" is entirely hallucinatory. It is written as if Oslo never
happened. The Palestinian side repeats solemn pledges to recognize Israel,
renounce terror, end anti-Israel incitement, etc. -- all promised in Oslo.
These promises are today such a dead letter that the Palestinian side is
openly bargaining these chits again, as if the Israelis have forgotten that in
return for these pledges 10 years ago, Israel recognized the PLO, brought it
out of Tunisian exile, established a Palestinian Authority, permitted it an
army with 50,000 guns and invited the world to donate billions to this new
Authority.

Arafat pocketed every Israeli concession, turned his territory into an armed
camp and then launched a vicious terror war that has lasted more than
three years and killed more than 1,000 Israelis. It is Lucy and the football all
over again, and the same chorus of delusionals who so applauded Oslo --
Jimmy Carter, Sandy Berger, Tom Friedman -- is applauding again. This
time, however, the Israeli surrender is so breathtaking it makes Oslo look
rational.

A Palestinian state, of course. Evacuating every Jewish settlement in new
Palestine, of course. Redividing Jerusalem, of course. But that is not
enough. Beilin gives up the ultimate symbol of the Jewish connection and
claim to the land, the center of the Jewish state for 1,000 years before the
Roman destruction, the subject of Jewish longing in poetry and prayer for
the 2,000 years since -- the Temple Mount. And Beilin doesn't just give it up
to, say, some neutral international authority. He gives it to sovereign
Palestine. Jews will visit at Arab sufferance.

Not satisfied with having given up Israel's soul, Beilin gives up the body
too. He not only returns Israel to its 1967 borders, arbitrary and
indefensible, but he does so without any serious security safeguards.

Palestine promises to acquire and buy no more weapons than specified in
some treaty annex. This is a joke. Oslo had similarly detailed limitations on
Palestinian weaponry, and nobody even pretended to enforce them. Last
year, a massive illegal boatload came in from Iran on the Karine A. What
did the world do about it? Nothing.

Today, however, Israel still has control over Palestine's borders. Under
Beilin, this ends. Palestine will be free to acquire as much lethal weaponry
as it wants.

And on the critical question that even the most dovish Israelis insist on --
that the Palestinians not have the right to flood Israel with Arab refugees --
the agreement is utterly ambiguous. Third parties (including among others
the irredeemably hostile Syria and its puppet Lebanon) are to suggest
exactly how many Palestinians are to return to Israel, and the basis for the
number Israel will be required to accept will be the mathematical average!

This is not a peace treaty, this is a suicide note -- by a private citizen on
behalf of a country that has utterly rejected him politically. That it should
get any encouragement from the United States or from its secretary of state
is a disgrace.
